I am in a club in the upstate that has no hogs on the property, no trail cam pictures, no signs, no nothing. One of my buddies and I went in on his club down in fairfield and put some corn out and got some on camera but nothing more than 3 or 4 at a time and all at night. By the time I sat down and figured it up we were spending 200 a weekend in gas, food, corn and then hunting 2 solid days and not killing anything and we have been going at least every other weekend since deer season ended. I have looked at a couple different outfitters here in SC and a couple in Bama and it ranges from 500+ for one day of hunting and that is seems a bit high. Does anyone know of or can recommend an outfitter that is a little more affordable or have any other ideas?

If you want to sit over a bait pile in a stand, I can't help you. If you want a kick-butt guided hunt in March, shoot me a PM and I'll give you a guide's name that will be worth your money.

It wasn't just corn it was scattered in a turnip patch a little bigger than a football field. I really figured between the turnips and the corn they would be in there thicker than thieves but it just ain't workin like I thought it would. I have seen one when hunting and it was running when I started shooting and running when i ran out of bullets.
On a side note....... I never knew hogs could run that fast. |

Baitin, what I meant is if you want to hunt/find hogs with a guy who knows what he's doing as a pro guide, let me know.

Find hogs????? As in stalk? I got bad news. I am 6' 3 and 325 so its kind of hard to sneak up on anything but the fridge for me. I can do all the walking and run a mile in under 8 minutes but its the queit part that gets me.

Just telling it like it is, I go to the gym 3-5 days a week and I am in pretty good shape I am just ate all of my greens and tater growin up. I have to buy treestands by weight rating versus what is cheaper or easier to use. I have never tried to stalk an animal but if I know if I am not walking on a road bed or a trail that has been trimmed then I sound like a heard of elephants coming through the woods. Maybe with some tips and a bag full of cotton balls on each foot i could manage to kill an animal this way.

Hogs are a lot smarter than people think they are. They are probably there a lot more than you think they are. They are just nocturnal.

There are plenty there just at night and I am not fond of the matching bracelets and chains associated with night hunting, if you get what I'm saying.

Yeah thats that little thing but you know they were close...close. i had to side step one of the babies that came in and was rooting on the other side of the tree i was leaned against. when i took that picture with her head up looking alert.... the wind had changed and she was just about to woof me
which she did and they all took off except little dumb@ss behind me so i had to shoe him off.LOL.... and i mean that litteraly.LOL. nearly had to punt him on over there.LOL.Man what a beautiful place they were in though...i'd actually gone to look to see if turk was scratchin around on those ridges and for squirrely hunt maybe this weekend but i started looking around and it was nothing but deer and pig sign where ever you looked and then i realized ...Jesus !!there's still fresh mast on the ground in here...green caps i mean, all sorts plus two overcups with fresh nuts still down.Weird! So go figure that one.????

Dude, I told everybody that the acorn season would have food on the ground waaaaaaay past deer season's close. Junior and I scouted the WMA next door on Saturday for two hours and on the ridges out of the way of the creek (now flooded badly) there were tons of acorns. Found three buck rubs. Also found the only way to hunt the deer that winded me is to go straight into the creek.
Hopefully this second really really wet winter and spring will work acorn magic on the mast again for fall 2010. |

i was gone to find him.

Right now the Santee, Pee Dee, and Black are all out of the banks and more rain is supposed to come today and this coming weekend. It's going to be very hard to dry up all of this water. IMO the only reason we haven't seen mass flooding so far is b/c we were in such a drought.

The wateree lake and river is WAY high right now. The river is the highest I have seen in awhile and doesnt look like its going down anytime soon.

Most of the landings down this way have been blocked off up at the roads. I'm starting to see water come up into people's back yards. I think some of those people should start looking at laying out some sandbags here soon. It's better to do it now and not need it then be too late.

If march holds true to its nature God only knows when the water on these rivers will fall out...the santee was inundated below ststephens last year way into april...nearly may... just from them having the ability to actually pump some water after the four years of draught...now though its a pressure thing on some of those dams i would think and theres a solid saturation now ...so its not going anywhere but down hill and up inland as far as the land will let it run.Even if March holds off rain wise i suspect that most of the big rivers are going to stay near and above flood stage near the whole spring and maybe longer.
